Access Control
Gate Keypad and Access Control Service
Access control decides who can open your gate. It can be a keypad, remote controls, card or fob readers, an intercom or call box, phone-app entry, or exit sensors that open the gate for cars leaving.
North Texas Garage Doors and Gates installs, programs, and repairs all of these for homes and businesses across Dallas–Fort Worth. We service all major brands and offer free estimates. Call (682) 459-1700.
Access Control Problems and What Causes Them
When the gate won’t open for someone, the cause is often in the access device, not the gate opener. Here is what to look for:
- Keypads: A keypad that won’t light up may have lost power or have a dead battery. Water, heat, and years of use wear out buttons. Codes can also be lost or changed after a power problem.
- Remote controls: A remote that only works up close usually needs a new battery. If it doesn’t work at all, it may need to be programmed again, or the receiver may have a problem.
- Card and fob readers: If one card fails, it may have been turned off in the system. If every card fails, the reader, its wiring, or the controller is the likely cause.
- Intercoms and call boxes: No sound or no ring-through can come from a phone or cellular service problem, a damaged speaker, or numbers that need updating.
- Phone-app entry: Most apps need an internet or cellular connection at the gate. If that connection drops, the app can’t reach the opener.
- Exit sensors: A sensor in the driveway can be damaged by cracks or shifting concrete, or be set too sensitive or not sensitive enough. That can keep a gate from opening, or make it open when it shouldn’t. Many use an exit loop, a wire cut into the driveway. We repair and replace exit loops.
A quick check: if the gate opens with a remote but not with the keypad or reader, the opener is probably fine, and the problem is in the access device.
How We Repair Access Control
We check the power, wiring, and settings at each device, at the receiver, and at the gate opener’s control board. Then we repair or replace the part that failed and test the gate from each remote, keypad, card, and sensor.
Many problems are simple fixes: a battery, a loose wire, a bad connection, or a setting that changed. Others need a new keypad, reader, or receiver. When a device is badly damaged, or parts for an older system are hard to find, replacing it can cost less over time than repeated repairs. We’ll explain the choices and give you a free estimate.
Access control works together with the gate opener. If the access devices work but the gate still won’t move, the problem may be the motor or control board. We handle those repairs too, so you don’t need a second company.
After any repair, we test the safety sensors and the auto-reverse, so the gate stops when something is in the way.
Choosing New Access Control for Your Gate
We install new access control when you add a gate opener, replace old equipment, or want more control over who comes in. The right choice depends on who uses the gate:
- Keypads: Drivers enter a code to open the gate. A simple choice for homes and for sharing access with family or service workers.
- Remote controls: A button in the car opens the gate. Handy for the people who come and go every day.
- Card and fob readers: Each person gets their own card or key fob, and one can be turned off without changing everyone else’s. This works well for businesses, neighborhoods, and shared gates.
- Intercoms and call boxes: Visitors and deliveries call from the gate, and you let them in.
- Phone-app entry: You open the gate from your phone. It needs a reliable connection at the gate.
- Exit sensors: The gate opens on its own for cars leaving the property, so drivers don’t need a code to get out. Many use a loop cut into the driveway, which we can repair or replace.
When we set it up, we program codes, remotes, and cards, mount devices where drivers can reach them easily, and test the safety sensors and the auto-reverse.
Keep it working: share codes only with people who need them, change them when that list changes, and have lost cards or fobs turned off right away.

Have Questions?
Gate Keypad and Access Questions
My gate keypad stopped working. What should I check first?
Check that the gate has power and opens with a remote. If the remote works but the keypad doesn’t, the problem is likely the keypad, its battery, or its wiring. If nothing works, it may be the opener. Call us, and we’ll find the cause.
Can you program new remotes, cards, or fobs?
Yes. We program remotes, keypads, cards, and fobs for gate access systems.
Do you install access control for businesses?
Yes. We install and repair keypads, remotes, card and fob readers, intercoms and call boxes, phone-app entry, and exit sensors for homes and businesses.
What brands do you work on?
We service all major brands.
Is there a warranty?
Yes. Warranty coverage depends on the part and the manufacturer. Ask us what applies to your equipment.
